“Our own body is the best health system we have if we know how to listen to it.” Christiane Northrup
A little about me
My name is Kate-Marie and I hold a deep passion in being present with people as they listen, discover and learn the language of their own unique body. As a well-travelled Somatic Therapist and Soul Motion Movement facilitator, I find joyfulness in opening nourishing and safe spaces for community and individuals to connect with themselves and each other. I feel honoured and hold sacred the opportunity to walk alongside and witness people from all backgrounds and situations.
With over 25 years of professional and lived experience, I serve across three key modalities that are woven together uniquely for each person or group. Using my training as a registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist for digesting emotions, Samvahan for supporting the body to find harmony, balance and peace and Soul Motion® Conscious Movement Practice to enliven and integrate with creativity and curiosity. The principles that guide my path are mindfulness, authenticity, peaceful and open dialogue, organicity (using our intuition to guide us), mind-body holism (all parts of us are welcome) and connecting with play and curiosity. My soul purpose is to keep alive the rich learnings of how to be peaceful and grounded in my own life and to be in service to others as they also find their way.
A life of Movement
Many paths have guided me towards a life of movement. Simply breathing is movement. From a young age, I was a ballroom dancer, which formed an important part of my own reflections around boundaries, form and fun. A few years later at around 20 I discovered the conscious dance floor, and my love affair for practices such as 5 Rhythms and Soul Motion began. This quickly became my healing ground and a place I could digest life through expression, play, creativity, relationships and curiosity.
This moving body also discovered life long practices such as Vipassana mediation, Qi Gong and Yoga, which teach me to celebrate and embrace the stillness of life. These practices infuse my living presence today and hopefully allow me to bring a rich texture of peace and possibility to the world.
Living, breathing and being in the landscapes of Central Australia, Middle East, Northern Scotland, India, Maldives, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea has also brought me a richer embodiment of presence. Living and learning with and through others is a dance I love dearly.
Some of my life experience that I bring with me as a community facilitator, somatic therapist, body worker and movement facilitator includes working and walking alongside people who have gone through environmental disasters and civil war. Learning the intimacy of change and trauma has given me a deep respect and direct understanding of how significant change impacts our body, mind and spirit. I've offered workshops in prisons and sat with the despair that finds its self in the body when liberty and freedom are stripped away. Another life experience that has brought richness and insight is being in service to those with different physical and mental abilities. Often these beings have been my greatest teachers of courage, determination and authenticity.
